The science
How OphthoMentor works
No black boxes. Two engines do the heavy lifting — one decides what to study and when, the other measures how ready you are — both built on established, citable science. Here's the honest version of each.
First, the foundation: question quality
Before any algorithm runs, every question is clinician-authored, independently reviewed, checked against the BCSC and Kanski, and continuously corrected. No engine can rescue shaky content — so we start here.
How questions are written & reviewedOn top of it, two engines
Adaptive spaced repetition
A modern FSRS scheduler (the DSR memory model) decides what to show you and exactly when — timing each question for the moment just before you'd forget it, and leaning into your weakest subspecialties.
How spacing worksBoard readiness index
The headline is retained published-pool ability (τ_ret). Cold ability appears only when its rounded value differs; graded bank coverage A limits the full-board bound R = A × τ_ret, with honest intervals instead of pass odds.

Confidence-aware grading
In Practice we read three signals — correct or not, your confidence, and your speed — to grade each answer, so a lucky guess and a confident answer aren't scheduled the same.
Viva & oral-case scoring
Oral cases are self-rated Got it / Partial / Missed, which feed the same spaced-repetition engine so your reasoning stations resurface on schedule too.
